Manual therapy is a hands-on approach that combines various techniques for dealing with pain, dysfunction, disease, and disability. What makes our office unique is that our therapists combine specific Treatment Approaches with a wide array of Manual Therapy Techniques to achieve the most beneficial results in patient care.
Strain and Counterstrain is a gentle, hands-on technique that allows for muscle and tissue relaxation using very specific body positions held for a few minutes. The Strain and Counterstrain technique offers immediate relief and is invaluable for people with acute pain or swelling; in cases of increased tissue sensitivity (such as Chronic Pain, TMJ, Headaches & Tinnitus). It is invaluable in a wide variety of Orthopedic & Sports and Neurological disorders, as well as Women’s and Men’s Health and Pediatric conditions.
The Graston Technique is a unique, and clinically effective, soft tissue mobilization technique designed to improve mobility and decrease musculoskeletal pain. Through comprehensive training, therapists use a variety of specially designed instruments to address scar tissue, soft tissue restrictions, and range of motion deficits. We combine the Graston technique with therapeutic exercises, posture re-education, and other physical therapy modalities for optimal success.
Visceral Mobilization gently addresses restrictions around the organs (viscera) and the connective tissues surrounding them. Specific, but gentle forces, are applied to release the abnormal tensions and restrictions in and around the targeted organ(s) allowing for functional improvement, the structural integrity and mobility of the organ and organ system, as well as the total body. These manipulations are used as a stimulus to the point where a patient’s body is able to correct itself without forcing the correction on the body. Visceral Mobilization may be applied for back and abdominal pain, Headaches, Chronic Pain, scar tissue restrictions, post-surgical conditions, many Men’s and Women’s Health and Pediatric problems, and other Orthopedic and non-orthopedic pain and dysfunction.
Myofascial Release are hands-on techniques which are very useful in cases when patient has trigger points and “knots” in the connective tissue (fascia) that surrounds the muscle, muscle groups, nerves, blood vessels, and bones, or to address scar tissue from injury or surgery. The goal of myofascial release therapy is to free constrictions of the fascia and remove connective tissue restrictions. The end result is a balanced body with better circulation and improved nerve signal transmission. Myofascial release therapy is used to help patients with poor posture, physical injury, illness, and many other ailments. Our Physical Therapists use Myofascial Release techniques on a daily basis to treat Orthopedic & Sports , Chronic Pain, TMJ, Headaches & Tinnitus, as well as Women’s and Men’s Health .
Muscle Energy Technique is a technique that is applied to a joint that has lost its proper congruency and alignment. The technique involves using the patient’s own muscle contraction to correct the misalignment of the joint surfaces and to restore the normal balance to the joint, as well as the muscles attached to the joint. This gentle and very precise technique is used for Orthopedic & Sports, Chronic Pain, TMJ, Women’s and Men’s Health conditions, as well in other cases when joint alignment needs to be restored.
Joint Mobilization is a technique that addresses individual joints that have become immobile with joint capsule tightness or fascial restrictions. If left untreated, the joint derangement can ultimately lead to pain and dysfunction. Joint Mobilization involves gentle oscillations of the involved joints to restore the normal joint mobility. This mobilization technique is both passive and painless and can be performed on many different joints in the body, ranging from the fingers, to the spine, to the toes. Joint Mobilization is widely used for treatment of Orthopedic & Sports injuries , Chronic Pain , Women’s and Men’s Health conditions , TMJ, Headaches & Tinnitus.
Therapeutic Taping is a skilled therapeutic technique used to treat a variety of Orthopedic conditions. This technique involves the application of therapeutic tape to the skin to support and stabilize the joints to prevent further injury. The tapes we use are applied with a specific amount of tension for your particular needs and symptoms. In addition, Therapeutic Taping still allows for some motion at the joint so that you are less vulnerable to injure yourself further. Our therapists use a variety of tapes, including Kinesio® Tape, Leukotape®, and Rock Tape®. We also use Athletic Tape, which is rigid and used when more motion control is needed. Therapeutic Taping is used in the treatment of Orthopedic and Sports Injuries, Chronic Pain, Women’s and Men’s Health Conditions.
